Here I Go Again

November 3, 2007

It’s been a long time since I wrote something here. I think my last post was in June’07. Nothing has changed so far, except that I had an accident 2 weeks ago [Oct 17th]. I was driving Ammu back from her doctor’s place and on our way back when I was making a wide left turn, a grey Chevy Trailblazer flew on me from out of nowhere. I bet the driver was going way above the speed limit. Still it was my fault, because I had the stop sign and according to my common sense and accident report, I should have paid more attention. John, driver of the other vehicle was a jerk and he was acting like I did it intentionally to kill him or to ruin his heavenly perfect life or something. I told him few times that I am sorry. An accident is an accident. Still he was acting all freaked out. Anyway, since I pay only for the liability, my insurance is not going to pay a single penny to fix my car. I gotta fix it from my own pocket :(. I already have bought the right fender, right marker light, right turn light and right headlight. The car is still at the bodyshop. Hopefully I will get it back on this Monday. For past 2 weeks I’ve been driving Abbu’s car and I feel like I’ve lost my faith in my driving skills. Sitting behind the wheel is no fun for me anymore. I didn’t have any accident for almost 5 years and now I have two accidents back to back in one year [totaled a minivan this February:(]. I just can’t risk another accident right now and thought of having one is scaring the heaven out of me. I don’t know if I am just getting older or having my post-accident-trauma!! :p

Yesterday I had a phone interview with ‘Authentec’ for a System Test Engineer position. The company is in Florida and they design fingerprint authentication sensors. The guy who took my interview was a weirdo. I felt like I was talking to a robot. At one point, he asked me “how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Describe every step”. LOL. I was like, “are you serious?”. Then he told me that, he was just checking how detail oriented I am :p. Actually they were looking for someone who knew Java (recruiter didn’t tell me that). So I told him before the interview, even though I have programming background but I am not a hardcore developer and I don’t know Java. He said it wouldn’t be a problem. Still he asked me 4 Java related questions [at least that’s how few of them sounded to me :p] and I had to repeat “I don’t know.. I don’t know.. ” 4 times within 30 seconds. LOL. So the interview didn’t go that great. But I am glad that I am not leaving NY for FL. :p

Rahman Bhai also had an interview with Infosys in BridgeWater, NJ. I went with him, cause he didn’t want to drive the whole way all by himself. We got stuck near Holland Tunnel (outbound) for almost an hour and reached there one hour late. He was lucky though, they still took his interview and it went great. Hopefully he is going to get a second interview with them.

At last the winter is here in NY. A sore throat along with my stuffy, runny nose is telling me that it’s winter time.

Oh I watched American Gangster last week. Nice movie.

‘The way I am’, a sweet song by Ingrid Michaelson from album ‘Girls and Boys’. If anyone needs the mp3, let me know :p

Lyrics:
If you were falling, then I would catch you. You need a light, I’d find a match. Cause I love the way you say good morning. And you take me the way I am.
If you are chilly, here take my sweater. Your head is aching, I’ll make it better. Cause I love the way you call me baby. And you take me the way I am.
I’d buy you Rogaine if you start losing all your hair. Sew on patches to all you tear. Cause I love you more than I could ever promise. And you take me the way I am. You take me the way I am.

“Try not to cry ..little one, you’re not alone ..i’ll stand by you”

June 15, 2007

“Since the very first day same story
Young ones, old ones, some glory
How can it be, has the whole world turned blind?
Or is it just ’cause it’s only affecting my kind?!”

Outlandish is a Denmark based hip-hop band influenced by Moroccan, Pakistani, Latin American music. On the other hand, Sami Yusuf is a British songwriter and singer. I believe this is their first production together. I have viewed few other Sami Yusuf videos (he mostly sings in Arabic and Persian; since he is originally from Iran). Anyway, I won’t say “enjoy this video”. Nothing to enjoy here, that’s just what’s happening around the world. I don’t think you have to be a Muslim to understand this song. This song is about all the people out there whoever are suffering from injustice. This video makes me sad and angry (knowing the fact that, I can’t do anything about the situation other than just hoping for a better one).

“Gobinda o ekta shalik” by Anjan Dutta

June 5, 2007

Anjan Dutta, one of my favorite Bangla musicians. He is a gifted all rounder who writes, composes and sings all his works. I’ve been listening to him since high school and still love his music. I admire the simplicity of his lyrics and music. Many of his songs are not only songs to me anymore; they make me nostalgic, remind me about the time I have passed, people I have spent time with and places I have been.

I try to collect all of his tracks. Never heard this one before though. Got the link from my friend. If anyone has any info about this album/track, please let me know. It might be from a Bangla Movie. Anjan also has acted in few movies including Mr. and Mrs. Iyer.

Enjoy!
